What can you expect from a combo that gave a mass hit movie like Thaakath?? An obvious guess where you can never go wrong. You are right one more mass masala flick, and thats wat Shankar IPS is.
M.S.Ramesh a dialogue writer turned director has not left any stone unturned in this movie to make this a complete mass entertainer. Punchy dialogues, Seducing song, an item song, action and any mass element you think of are present here.
Shankar IPS is Vijay’s show. Its our duniya Viji all over the movie with different getups. The film mainly concentrates on the victims of acid attacks. It portrays Police in good light as against many movies. Many relevance to current politics and happenings like Afzal guru’s death sentence, call centre rape cases etc seems to be apt
Coming to the story line Shankar is a strict and disciplined police officer who never tolerates injustice especially against women. The movie starts with Viji as a Super Don killing a rowdy who rapes a girl. Why did he become a rowdy is answered by a flashback and that’s where hottie Catherine comes in.
Catherine is daughter of constable Shobraj who works under Vijay. Catheine’s dream is to become Miss India and to serve the blind. But this dream gets shattered when Giridhar Saklecha son Saklecha(avinash) does acid attack on her. And the remaining film is all about how Shankar fights to bring justice to her.
The first half is ok but the second half looses track with people wondering where the story is heading towards. The movie lacks flow and looks as bits and pieces joined together.
The movie mostly banks on punchy dialogues and action. The dialogues in the movie will be a treat to the mass and will surely be wooed by them. The dialogues keeps the movie going.
BGM by Gurukiran is good but the songs are the main drawback of the movie. U dont remember even a single song to hum when you come out of the theatre.
Vijay once again has given a power packed performance and excels in action sequences and dialogue delivery in many scenes. A the same time he fails pathetically in voice modulation for his role in negative act which irks you throughout the movie. His walking style which was supposed to be the highlight looks childish and very awkward. He fails to make an impression in terms of looks in the police getup. He is also under utilised in action scenes. I still dont understand why vijay went for this hardcore body building.
Catherine impresses both as a glam doll and with the girl next door image. She also gives a good performance and does justice to her role. On the other hand Raagini who is the main lead has become a sidekick and has nothing to perform in the whole movie except the hot song Satyam. Raagini’s role is overshadowed by Catherine’s role.
Rangayana Raghu has given a very good performance as a corrupted lawyer. The court scene between Vijan and Raghu stands out.
Final Verdict – This one is an out and out mass movie, It lacks freshness in terms of narration. Watch only if you are a Vijay’s fan
