SHIVAMANI – A Good Album!

Wanted to hear this music from the time I heard Kaaranji's mix of Aadisi Nodu. I heard this in the opposite order for some reason:

1. Theme music: Shivamani is an action oriented film per the reports. I would have expected heavy duty electric guitars, drums altogether westernized music here. But, the theme music surprised me with it's Indian/Carnatic orientation. That said it's not bad, it's actually very good to listen to.

2. Badatanakke Umbuva Chinte - Again shaastreeya sangeeta-da mele reliance. Vishaada haaDu? Context gottagtilla. Notable in this song is Veer Samarth's voice. And the lyrics – a vachana of Ambigara Chowdayya (not familiar with his works).

3. Yaarige Yaaruntu - Mattondu vishaada haaDu, am I really listening to an action oriented film-na music? Ah well, this is what I get when I listen to the album backwards. That said, one of the best songs SP Balasubramanium has sung in a while.

4. Mari Jinkemari – Ah finally a song that looks like it belongs in a masala movie. Even though this song should have been avoided. Ordinary haaDu – Hemant avra kanTha chennagide.

5. Nee Hinde Bandaaga – Kastoori Nivasakku, Veer Samartharigu enu nanTu? Kaaranji-li AaDisi noDu-du remix aaytu, ee haaDina pallavi lyrics are heavily inspired by Nee Bandu Nintaaga. And it's written by Veer Samarth. Ee haaDu ok. It could've been better I suppose, usage of singers is uninspired – Sadhna Sargam wasn't exactly the best choice for this song given how she's sung it.

6. Rama Rama – Sonu Kakkar item haaDu. Rama, rama yaakaadru ee Sonu hatra haaDistaaro? Easily the worst song of the album. The background music's actually quite good if you can get past the horrible voice. Less said about the lyrics (written by the director himself) the better.

7. Shivamani – Title haaDu. Violin (?) usage in the beginning of the song, it's caught my interest already. Then Shankar Mahadevan starts singing and it's not bad at all. For once Shankar brings the necessary force into the song. The lyrics make me wonder – what is this movie about again?

8. Moda Modala – YugaLa geete sung by Karthik and Shreya. This is a tailor-made song I think for Sonu Nigam, points for using Karthik instead. And he does a good job. So does Shreya. Lyrics are like any other yugaLa geete. Aadru ok. Very good music though.

All in all, it's not a bad album, definitely one of the good ones this year. Except, it isn't exactly something that I had expected. But Veer Samarth is definitely a composer to watch for.
