PAYANA – AMAZING, FANTASTIC AND MIND BLOWING!!

Amazing, fantastic, mind blowing movie. In the recent times, personally, this movie ranks next best only to the all time classic Mungaaru maLe.
Thanks to Nrupatunga, Guddu, Karthick & shy (to some extent :-) ) for referring me to watch this movie steadfastly. Otherwise, it would have been a costly miss for me.
I watched it on 13th November (yesterday) at Abhinay theatre second show, which incidentally is the last show of the movie at this theatre. Sadly there were only around 20 spectators in the entire theatre with a capacity of more than 700.
Coming back to the movie, I had gone to this movie with least or zero expectations. The first fifteen minutes of the movie even made me to think that I am in for one more average affair. But, with the introduction of the heroine, everything was turned on it's head. What a journey from their on. It's entertainment at it's best. Though the storyline is predictable, you never worry about it. But, it's the feel in the movie which is fantastic almost bringing me back the memories of the joy I used to get while watching Mungaaru maLe.
Probably at the end of the movie, I was so ecstatic that it was only during watching Mungaaru maLe countless number of times at Pramod theatre that I used to get ecstatic so much. Especially the climax. It rips you apart though it's predictable.
Ravi Shankar, famously known as Dr.Vittal Rao, is nothing but a revelation in this movie. Whatever little I had seen about this man in the form of songs of Payana on TV, I was having a complete negative opinion on this movie. I was really sceptical as to how this guy can carry on with the hero role. But, he just proved me how wrong I was. At the end of the movie, I was really convinced that no other actor would have carried out that role with such elan and ease. His dialogue delivery is heart warming especially the way he addresses the heroine as 'madame' in the first half and 'kaaaveerriiiii' in the second half. His mono acting with Sai Baba throughout the movie is ultimate. But, he is at his best when he returns back to the Travel Agency in the second half and the second time when he sees the placard 'KAAVERI' in his cab and tells to god 'en boss … ee sarthi yaamaarisbedi boss'… Amzing, fantastic. Hats off Ravi Shankar… At many points in the movie, he made my eyes wet like anything. Even when I watched Mungaaru maLe, I had negative opinions on Ganesh before going to the theatre.. But, later Ganesh became one of my favourite actors.. Even in the case of Payana, Ravi Shankar has emulated Ganesh. But, the only difference between them is that Ganesh is a Hero material while Ravi Shankar is not a hero material. Nonetheless, Ravi Shankar is ultimate in this movie.
What to say about the heroine Ramaneetho Chowdhry. She is absolutely stunning not only in her beauty but the grace and poise that she has brought to the role. You can't take your eyes off from her right from the first scene to the last scene. I really fell in love with her for the grace and dignity she has brought into that role. She is so gorgeous that throughout the movie you wish you were Ravi Shankar. In the climax, especially you become jealous and envious of Ravi Shankar. Do not ask me why.. Watch this movie and you will know. Ramaneetho Chowdhry, you are superb …
The chemistry between Ravi shankar and Ramaneetho is on the telling aspects of this movie.. They form such a super pair with their innocense.
I can only say the director Kiran Govi is another YOGRAJ BHAT in the making. There are so many similarities between him and Yograj Bhat and also between Mungaaru maLe and Payana. The feel, the ambience, the treatment everything in Payana reminded me of Yograj Bhat. You need a director with guts and taste to narrate such a simple storyline with such great effect. Kiran Govi has loads of that. Even this guy is also highly nature loving just like Yograj Bhat and the first half of the movie is a Visual Spectacle of the nature beauty of Karnataka. All the credit to Kiran Govi and the the cinematographer.
Now, coming to the real star of the show. The Magical Music Director HARI KRISHNA. When the title card is shown, the way Maanasa Gange song has been used for the background makes your heart dance. The background score in the entire movie is fantabulus and outstanding. The Ravi Shankar and Ramaneetho scenes in the first half of the movie reaches a new height due to the background score of Hari Krishna. And, what to say about the mesmerising songs of the movie. 'Luv la', 'Maanasa Gange' and 'modada oLage' songs received whistles even from the crowd with 20 people. Then you can imagine the craze that this man has created with his lovely songs. Picturisationwise, 'Chandira Mooduva' and 'Gap Chup' stands out. But, from the emotional point of view, for me personally, MAANASA GANGE REMAINS THE BEST SONG OF 2009 and though I was not a big fan of it's picturisation of this song when I watched it on the TV, but in the movie, with the flow of the sequences, this song has a SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE IN MY HEART.. HATS OFF HARI KRISHNA.. YOU ARE ONE GEM OF A MUSIC DIRECTOR.
Equal credit should go to the dialogue writer of the movie. He has kept it so simple and effective. Some of the dialogues will directly touch your heart and bring tears in your eyes. The kOdu baLe dialogue by Bullet Prakash is the best. The dialgoue by Ravi Shankar to Bullet Prakash 'ley .. ley.. neen bal kilaadi kaNo.. ondu kOdu baLenalli jeevanaane arTha maadkondbittideeya'.. There are innumerable dialogues like this in the movie which brings instant joy to you. For eg., the dialogues which Ravi Shankar says 'naavu manushyaru hosa vasthugaLu sikka thakshna haLedanna careless maadbidthivi… nanna kshamisu… munchina tharana eeglu saath kodu '… Ultimate, fantastic, superb…
And, finally, Rangaayana Raghu gets some role which does complete justice to his potential though it's a small one. His acting in the scene wherein Ravi Shankar comes back to his Travel Agency and the way he consoles him saying 'ley .. ley.. idu ninna travel agency kano.. neen yaavath bekaadru barbodu' is ultimate..
I want to write tons and tons on this movie… But, words are failing at this moment.. I will write again more on Payana..
Payana is a movie which I will never forget in my life time. If you have not yet watched this movie, you are missing something in your life especially if you are a kannada movie lover.
GO WATCH THIS GEM OF A MOVIE. PAYANA.
